How to use this journal:

These thought-provoking journal prompts were curated from my work with clients, conversations with friends, and questions I have asked myself in order to delve deeply into meeting who I truly am beneath layers of subconsciously conditioned thoughts and inherited reactions that do not serve me.

From leaving my job in Law Enforcement Intelligence to starting my own mental health nonprofit, to moving my family—including our two daughters and elderly pup—to another continent in the midst of a pandemic while successfully leading Humansave from across the globe, I’ve used these same reflections and questions to transform my life many times over.

(And not a single one was written with Chat GPT!).

While the prompts are organized into Past, Present, and Future, feel free to skip around and spend as much or as little time as you feel called to.

There are 26 prompts made up of multiple questions to help you go deeper, as well as a short reflection to jumpstart your thought process. There is also enough space to respond to each prompt again at a later time.

If you commit to addressing one prompt per week, this journal will last you a whole year. I would highly encourage you to regularly read through your past responses, and practice asking yourself these questions multiple times.

Pause long enough to marvel at all the changes you begin to see, no matter how small.

The key here is to begin pouring energy into building a vulnerable, profound, and authentic relationship with yourself so that you can meet your hard moments with grace, create a more loving and peaceful home within yourself, and start shaping your reality to match who you really are.

About the author

Francesca Douglass-Franco is the Founder and CEO of Humansave, a mental health nonprofit dedicated to serving survivors of human trafficking, child sexual exploitation, and their families in California. She earned her Master’s in Forensic Psychology with an emphasis in Homeland Security, and left Law Enforcement Intelligence to start Humansave in 2017. She believes that treatment is a powerful prevention tool, and that the way we raise the next generation will have the greatest impact on ending the demand for human trafficking once and for all. Today, she facilitates trainings and speaks about topics such as human trafficking, trauma-informed care, mindful parenting, and more.
She’s also a proud second-generation cycle breaker who is passionate about helping people connect deeply and vulnerably with themselves and their loved ones.

While she remains deeply involved in the Long Beach community, Francesca currently resides in the Portuguese countryside with her husband Helmer and their two brilliant daughters. In her spare time you can find her playing guitar, practicing Portuguese, and daydreaming about her next entrepreneurial endeavors.
